From the small village of Eddleston we walk towards Barony Castle (a tower house originally built in the 16th century and extended in the 18th century, resulting the present facade) before striking out across country towards the hamlet of Shiplaw, then into forestry commission land at the foot of Cloich Hill. Continuing along this track we then join a section of the old Cross Border Drove road back to Eddleston.
The walk has views of the Moorfoot Hills and uses minor roads, farm and forestry commission tracks, woodland and grassy paths across open fields. These can become very muddy in places and therefore waterproof walking boots recommended.
