Kelly Cut

The Kelly Cut Aqueduct was built in 1845 to supply Loch Thom with more water, such was the demand from the thriving industries and the increasing population of Greenock.

From the Visitor Centre in the hills behind Greenock we join the Kelly Cut path which meanders across Leap Moor eventually arriving at the upper reaches of Wemyss Bay.  From here we take farm tracks to the outskirts of Inverkip and eventually into Leapmoor Forest, then onto the Dam at Daff Reservoir.  We return to the start point via the same route.

The route uses a variety of well defined paths - grassy/moorland paths, forestry commission tracks, pavements and farm tracks, some of which can be rough and muddy in places.

The area across the moor is exposed therefore appropriate outer clothing and footwear required.
