When: | Saturday, 14 March, 2015 |
Where: | Preston Island And Culross (Fife) |
How Long: | A circular walk of approximately 6 miles |
Leaving St John's: | 9:30 am |
From the village of Culross, the walk goes along the sea shore of the Firth of Forth and around the perimeter of Preston Island (which is actually a peninsula).
The "Island" was used for salt panning in the 19th century. The path then takes us through a wood and alongside a private railway before re-entering Culross.
Here we take a detour to visit Culross Abbey and the ruins of Culross Monastery. A wander through this picturesque village with its narrow winding cobbles street and brightly painted houses some of which are NT brings us back to our start point.
