We leave Aberfoyle and head through a deciduous forest, a narrow hidden glen, across moorland through a forestry plantation before emerging on the shores of Loch Venachar. A short walk along a minor unclassified road then another forest before reaching Callander.
As the walk is in the heart of the Trossachs, it offers wonderful views of Ben Lomond, the Campie Hills, Ben Ledi, Loch Venachar and the surrounding area.
A variety of paths is used including woodland, grassy, moorland, forestry commission tracks and tarmac minor roads. Some of these can be uneven and muddy in places so appropriate footwear is needed.
