Far East Adventure

In the summer of 2011 a team of pupils from Carluke High will be embarking on a month long expedition of a lifetime to China and Mongolia.

This trip will consist of travelling to remote villages in Mongolia to truly experience their culture. The team will also be working at The Lotus Children's Centre. The Centre was set up by an Australian woman and has now expanded with the help of local staff and international volunteers. It is a place where children can get the food and medical care they need, as well as the education that mostly they don't receive when they live on the streets. The Lotus Children's Centre was set up in Ulaanbaatar to try to give these children a fairer start in their lives.

In the later stages of the trip we will travel to Beijing by the Trans-Mongolian Railway. When we are in Beijing we will walk part of the Great Wall of China and visit various attractions such as the Forbidden City.

My own reasons for going on the trip include continuing my personal development by getting out of my comfort zone and experiencing something very different to what I am used to.

The cost of the trip is £3,500 per person. I will be raising this through various fundraising events, the first of which was a Bingo Night which raised £900. My next event is a Coffee Morning to be held at St John's Church on 11 September.
