Kirk Session News
A meeting of the Kirk Session was held on Monday, 21 September.
Glenn Walker was sworn in as the new Session Clerk. At the end of the meeting Rev Roy Cowieson made a presentation to Graham Jackson on behalf of Session in recognition of his 12 years service as Session Clerk after which we shared a time of fellowship together.
The Youth Team reported that Janice Ord is in post as the new Youth Church Superintendent overseeing a dedicated staff team. It was reported that the Holiday Club had been a huge success as a Parish Grouping venture, with plans for a reunion in October for the children and their friends as well as a leaders' reunion in November.
As for Presbytery matters, Session was informed that the Moderator of the General Assembly will be visiting Lanark Presbytery in March 2010 and will be spending some time in Carluke. Rev David Easton, well known and respected here in St John's, has been appointed Moderator of Lanark Presbytery.
The Session Clerk gave a presentation on the Presbytery structure and Session was given the opportunity to discuss some questions around the working of Presbytery and what changes might be considered in the future.
Other Session matters included the planning of a joint conference in October for elders of St John's, Kirkton and St Andrew's to look at short, medium and long term targets for the Parish Grouping.
