Carluke Churches Working Together
St John's Church hall was the scene of much activity during the week of 14-18 May when, during Christian Aid Week, hundreds of people converged on the premises either for morning coffee or lunch or both! Dozens of homemade scones and pancakes, together with a mouth-watering selection of home baking, were on display and quickly consumed by the hungry public. Lunches were so much in demand that food regularly sold out and hurried arrangements made to buy in additional supplies. The Churches, working together, ran an exceptionally smooth and successful Cafe, raising the amazing total of £4575 over the five days of business. This figure represents an increase of £335 over last year's total and the highest amount ever raised from the Cafe. As in past years, CHOICES made a generous donation of £1000.
But none of this could have been achieved without the support of a huge band of people who generously offered their time, talents and money to support the Cafe. So a big thank you to our customers and to everyone who volunteered in any way to help raise funds during the week.
As ever, we are extremely grateful to our collectors who year by year carry out the door to door collection. This year the collection drew in £3675, an increase of £570 on last year's collection. Well done to all of you.
The Christian Aid committee will take a few months break but we will be back in the autumn with news of more money making projects. The work done by Christian Aid and its partner organisations throughout the world never stops and likewise relies on us for continuous support.
