Youth Church

As another year is drawing to a close in Youth Church, each department has been extremely busy working and learning together.

Creche caters from birth to three years old and meet in the downstairs room. Bubbles Factory is for the three to five year olds and they meet in the upstairs room. Splash Zone is for primary one to primary three children and they meet in the large hall. X-Stream Team is for the primary four to primary seven group and they meet in the small hall. If the laughter and noise coming from each room is a guide as to how much the children enjoy their different groups, they certainly seem to be having a good time each Sunday. All of the lessons are Bible based taken from Scripture Union material, that incorporates drama, Bible study, arts and crafts.

The perennial favourite of a trip to Lanark pantomime was our Christmas outing where we booed and hissed our way through Jack and the Beanstalk, rounded off with juice, sweets and ice cream. Our summer trip is to Biggar Puppet Theatre, again a favourite with one and all.

Link 1 meet at 10.00 am in the small hall and this group caters for first year to third year at high school. After their own meeting, they join the church service for the first half. This year they have also enjoyed a Wild West theme games night as well as a trip to the Imax cinema in Glasgow. Along with Link 2, a short film has been produced entitled "God's Green House" which will be judged for a St Andrew's Multi Media Youth Project (SAMYP) award in the autumn. Watch this space for details of the world premier coming soon.

Link 2 is for fourth year to sixth year pupils who meet on an ad hoc basis, sometimes in the leaders homes or on nights out. This year they have been to Cafe Scientifique public science and ethics lectures in Glasgow University, had a James Bond theme night, and golf driving range and snooker evening amongst others.

As superintendent I wish to take this opportunity to thank our Youth Church leaders for all their time and effort so willingly given each week, but also to say goodbye to those who are concluding their term of service -

A warm welcome is extended to Annyse Ewing (currently with Splash Zone) who is filling the post of Youth Church Superintendent from August. Three other ladies have registered an interest in becoming involved in the Youth Church, and we look forward to them sharing their enthusiasm for the nurturing of our children as they grow and learn about the Christian faith.

However, we still require youth leaders, especially for Link1. If our Youth Church is to continue to thrive, our young people need the guidance of eager and interested leaders, men or women. Christian life experience and good humour are the main qualifications.

Your Youth Church needs you! Please contact Annyse

Moira G Elliott
Superintendent

As well as the other members of the Youth Church team, listed above, who are concluding their term of office, Moira G Elliott is also finishing as Superintendent and leader of Splash Zone.

We would like to thank Moira and the others for their commitment, energy and contributions to the Christian education of our young people.
