Church organist resigns
At their meeting on 26 March 2007, the Session heard of the resignation of our organist and choir master, Philip Fox.
Philip has provided the musical accompaniment to worship at St John's for the last 37 years. He now feels that the time is appropriate for him to make changes which would allow him to worship with his wife, Shena, who is musical director at Greyfriars Church, Lanark. After much thought he submitted his resignation.
Philip led the music for the last time in St John's on Sunday, 6 May at morning worship at the end of which Graham Jackson gave a warm tribute to Philip's life and witness during those 37 years. Philip was then presented with a Certificate of Long Service, and a cheque which represented contributions from the many members at St John's for whom Philip had been a part of their lives for so long. After the service there was a finger-buffet lunch to mark his departure. (See page 6 for more)
What's New?
From this issue, as well as news and information of particular interest to the congregation, St Johns News includes a new section, with material of wider interest to the Parish Grouping. It is hoped that, though time, this section will include more feature articles written by members of the three congregations.
If you would like to contribute an article on any subject, please hand it to the Editor, George Reid, at any time.
