Depute Session Clerk appointed
Session Clerk, Graham Jackson, had announced his intention to resign at the December Session. However, he was prevailed upon to withdraw his resignation with the proposal to appoint a second depute to take some of his workload from him.
The work of the Session Clerk will now be carried out by a small team of three: Graham will remain as Session Clerk with oversight over all work; Liz Barthram, the existing depute, will take care of the ever-increasing demands from the developing Parish Grouping and Janice Webster is now appointed to be responsible for all aspects of Session meetings, from preparing the agenda to writing the minutes.
Nominee elected
At morning service on 28 January 2007, the congregation learned that the Nominating Committee had, at last, found a suitable Nominee as minister of St John's, in the Rev Roy Cowieson, currently in Canada.
Kirk Session wrote to all members and adherents on the Electoral Register for St John's to advise them of the nomination and to urge them to attend the service on the morning of 18 February, when Mr Cowieson preached. Immediately after that service, there was be a secret ballot to vote on calling Mr Cowieson as minister.
Charity Concert raises £1185
Following a wonderful concert by the Stonehouse Male Voice Choir, held in Kirkton Church on Wednesday 7 February, the sum of £1185 has been raised towards the work of the Scottish Bible Society. Many thanks to the choir and all who supported this special evening.
Time for Fellowship
Once again we have had a great response at Time for Fellowship on Sundays after the morning service. I would like to thank all the ladies who help each Sunday. This last year, we have donated £200 to St John's World Mission and Shelter. We look forward to all who come to share Fellowship over a cup of tea or coffee each week. Once again, I would appeal to anyone wishing to help on a Sunday to please see me at Time for Fellowship, or phone me on 750915.
Moira Braynion.
Church Website
A new feature will allow visitors to St John's website to download and listen to selected sermons.
The first offerings, a series of sermons preached by Rev David Easton on Nehemiah's work to re-build the walls of Jerusalem are now available. Visit the Sermon-net page, and click on the sermon links. The sermons are stored as the common MP3 file type which should be playable with most current audio players, including Windows Media Player (supplied as part of Windows OS) and Real Player.
Links to Bible Gateway on-line bibles (www.biblegateway.com) will allow listeners to read the relevant passages while listening to the sermon.
Visit the Sermon-Net page to hear what Rev Roy Cowieson had to tell the congregation about himself when he preached as Nominee on Sunday 18 February 2007!
