Jar of Grace

Even though education is everybody’s human right, a massive 121 million children are missing out on primary school. The focus of the 2006 Jar of Grace appeal, organised by UNICEF is to ensure that all children have access to an education.
In past years, St John’s members have generously supported UNICEF. If you would like to take part, all you have to do is to set aside an empty jam jar, or other suitable container, then encourage members of your family to add a coin or two to this Jar of Grace at mealtimes between now and Christmas. At that time, all the jars will be emptied and the funds collected sent to UNICEF. You may be surprised how small contributions, made regularly, will mount up.
How your money can help:
- £4 will provide 10 sets of a sketch pad and 8 colouring crayons
- £12 will provide a whole school with pencils.
- £19 will provide 150 exercise books.
- £80 will provide 6 weeks of teacher training.
- £125 will provide a “school-in-a-box”, full of materials to allow the setting up of a temporary school for 80 children during an emergency.
Leaflets with jar stickers and further information will be available soon. Watch the Sunday Bulletin for details.
