Go forth and multiply this Christian Aid Week
Christian Aid's Festival of Christmas Praise held in Kirkton Church in December, with special appearances by S.H.I.N.E. and the Youth Section of the Primrose Flute Band, drew a large attendance. A collection for Christian Aid taken during the service raised £566.
Committee members of the combined Churches Christian Aid committee recently spent a Saturday in Somerfield grocery packing at the check-outs. £714.13 was raised for Christian Aid.
A host of celebrities is backing Christian Aid Week 2006 (14-20 May). They are helping to raise awareness of its You add. We multiply slogan and encourage people to add their time, money and voice, and see them multiplied to make an impact around the world through Christian Aid.
Music star Beverley Knight, actor Damien Lewis and former Eastenders' star and Strictly Come Dancing winner Jill Halfpenny, are all backing this year's fundraising week.
The slogan, You add. We multiply. embraces the heart of Christian Aid's belief that together we can make a big difference and that even the smallest donation can grow to achieve real change. Doing the maths is simple; just by giving enough money to buy a pair of chickens for a village, we can help turn these chickens into eggs and more chickens!
Actress Jill Halfpenny said:
And so as the churches in Carluke unite to plan seven amazing days of fundraising, prayer and action against global poverty during Christian Aid Week, please think about adding your time, money and voice and see them multiplied for Christian Aid by :
- volunteering to be a door to door collector in one or two streets, or
- baking a cake for St John's day in the Christian Aid cafe on Thursday 18th May, or
- giving a lettuce or a few potatoes towards providing lunches in the cafe, or
- being a waiter or waitress for a few hours in the cafe, or
- washing or drying a few dishes in the kitchen.
If you can spare an hour or more to help with any of these tasks please give your name to Mary McGillivray, Iris Nelson or Sandra Peat
Please support us if you can
