Street Level Report 2005

The Street Level Report 2005 was read in all the churches connected with the Street Level project at the morning service on 2 October. Moira Elliott, one of our representatives on the Street Level Committee, presented the Report in St John's.

Many churches at about this time of year celebrate the harvest, and give thanks to God for all the good things He has given us in this world.

In many respects, our children are part of this harvest. They too are God's gifts to us, not just to our families but also to our community and to our nation. Like the harvest, our young people need to be nourished and nurtured, and the Street Level project is one way we as a Christian community in this town are carrying out this work. So, as well as giving thanks for the harvest, we ask you to give thanks for Street Level.

Street Level is the result of six churches, including St John's, working together. To people outside this town, that is a major achievement. Street Level is also over 10 years old. That is also a major achievement. But we face significant challenges. We tend to take the success of Street Level for granted. Yet those who helped to set up the project are 10 years older. Some have had to move on; others have less time and less energy. Street Level is in very great need of new blood. We need volunteers from all the churches, not to work with the young people though if you want to get involved in that kind of thing, we will find a role for you. But what we really need are back room staff: people to provide support for the project, people to provide encouragement and advice to Jim McIntyre and Nan Frame and their teams, and to publicise the great work that they do in God's name and with our support.

Come along to our Annual General Meeting to learn more about the work of the project and to also to hear about the work we are not able to do because we do not have enough people to push the project forward. And if you do hear God's call to help in this work, if God has given you great gifts that you can use to help Street Level move along, then speak to Moira Elliott or Bill Russell.
