Thankyou, St John's

Maggie and I would like to express our thanks to everyone at St John's for the outpouring of affection shown to us and the generosity of the gift given to us on leaving the congregation on Sunday 13th November. We hadn't really realised how much we had come to mean to people, nor how strong the bonds of friendship and fellowship in Christ had become. It's strange how these things only become clear at times like these when there is a parting of ways. We're also amazed that so many of you took the trouble to attend the induction service at Slateford Longstone on Thursday 17th; it was a great occasion and I was heartened that a number of you noted the warmth and sincerity of the congregation here. I'm particularly grateful to Graham Jackson that both on the Sunday and Thursday he found so many nice things to say about Maggie, me and the family! He'll be glad to known that I've already been offered - and bought - a set of golf clubs, so I hope the weather doesn't become too wintry too soon and I can try them out!

God has surely called us to a new ministry here in Edinburgh. And, as I said before leaving, if this is a good move for us in his will and purpose, then it will also be for the good of St John's. I trust and pray that you will soon be given the final permission required to call a new minister, and look forward to hearing great things of your progress in worship, service and mission. But I have one last request to make - when your new minister arrives, I won't mind at all if you compare my weaknesses to his or her strengths; but please don't compare my strengths to his or her weaknesses. It would undermine your new minister's confidence if you do that, and it wouldn't be any good for St John's.

May God bless you all and lead you forward in his purposes for you and for the kingdom.

With love, prayers and good wishes

Mike and Maggie Frew
