Summer Holiday Club 2005
Ahoy there!

The Landlubbers Holiday Club in Crawforddyke Primary was a great success, as so many of the clubs held there have been. Children - and leaders! - could be seen in pirate costume, complete with bandanas, eye patches and even hooks.
Up to 70 children attended each day, many of whom have no other church connection. The theme was based around an imaginary Treasure Island, with the pirates (landlubbers now that they had landed on the shore) searching for treasure.
The stories followed the adventures of Paul on his missionary journeys, as told in the Acts of the Apostles, and selected passages from his letter to the Philippians were also used as a basis for each day's theme. Various clues were found, leading in the end to the greatest treasure of all - knowing Jesus as our Lord and Saviour.
The usual Parents' Night was held, with a good attendance and a welcome return visit from Bill McGillivray with his Meaningful Magic. It's hoped that the interest stimulated will help bring families to church, and their children to Youth Church or the Tuesday evening Jaffa Club.
Heartfelt thanks go to all those involved in helping to lead the Club - from the registration and drama teams, to those who worked closely with the children in their "crew" groups. Nearly forty adults and young people from St John's and other congregations in the town took part, forming a close-knit and effective team.
