Youth Church

Once again we are at the end of another Youth Church session.  Whilst the number of children attending has gone down, Sunday mornings are still lively with the attending children thoroughly enjoying their projects and lessons from the Scripture Union books.  The teachers and helpers as always give their time and talent each week preparing and presenting interesting material.  The children are always anxious to take home and show off their own work.  They enjoy sharing their news with us and we feel we are part of their lives as we exchange our stories at news time.

Dates for your diary

This year Promotion Sunday is June 19th. Please try to come along and see our young people receive their promotion gifts.

Our summer trip is a little different, again, this year. We are going to The Big Saturday on Saturday 10th September (see The BIG Saturday).  The venue is the SECC in Glasgow to see Something Fischy is going on led by Stephen Fischbacher and Fischy Music.  This is an ideal opportunity for all the family to join in the summer trip and enjoy Stephen's ministry to children.  If you would like to join us please contact me as soon as possible.

Youth Church Staff

We say "goodbye" to Ann McFadzen from X-stream team finishes her 3-year term. Sharon Irvine from the Bubbles Factory also finishes this year.  Moira Elliott from Link 1 completes a 5-year term this summer.  We extend our thanks to them for their invaluable contribution and we know the Youth Church and LinK 1 will miss them.

We say "Welcome" to Ray Green and Helen Wyper have volunteered to assist in Youth Church where we assure them of a warm welcome.

Creche

The crèche is short of helpers for the rota.  If there were enough names on the list the duty would be approximately once every 2/3 months.  So if you feel you would like to help out in the crèche, don't hesitate to contact us.

LinK 1

LinK 1 has had another busy year. One highlight was taking part in the Church Without Walls national film project. The task was to produce a 5-minute drama under the header of Your Dream Church. Members of LinK 1 and 2 scripted and acted in a production entitled "Dream Pitch" (ably assisted by members of the congregation with professional skills in editing, camera work and sound). Our world premier was in St John's church halls on Wednesday 4th May. The event was well attended, with one or two autographs being requested!

Recently we heard that the film was nominated in four categories (acting, writing, editing and for overall best drama) for the national award ceremony to be held in Edinburgh on Saturday 28th May. Go Link!

Earlier this year we went to a basketball game in Glasgow to see the Scottish Rocks narrowly defeated in a thrilling match. We also hope to finish our year with another trip to Edinburgh to play a game of Laser Quest.

LinK 2

LinK 2 tried out a new time this year of 10 am, meeting in the church office. Those who were able to attend regularly enjoyed discussions on a wide variety of relevant life topics, often spurred on by the 'story of the week' slot with contributions from the members and leaders and their very often 'interesting' weeks at work or school.

The LinK 2 attendance has been very small as upper school pupils often have a whole range of time conflicts. Therefore for next year, for those being newly promoted to LinK 2 and for remaining members, the leaders would like to try yet another format which was piloted towards the end of this session. Rather than formal weekly meetings, an approximately once a month event will allow a varied approach to young people's fellowship and Christian witness. Events may include going to a concert, or games or quiz evenings. Come on LinK 2, your leaders need you!
