World Mission Report

A regular, monthly newsletter is sent by the Murrays in Thailand. Copies are available to all, on request from Greta Stratton. In his latest newsletter, Scott Murray reports that the family was unharmed by the Boxing Day Tsunami. Scott writes:

Many have written and asked how we are since the events of 26th Dec took place affecting much of South Thailand on the Andaman side of the peninsular. Here in Manorom we are about 800 km away from the area that took the brunt of the tidal wave in Thailand. We felt nothing and were unaware of the event until we watched the news that evening.

Scott tells us that people had arrived at the hospital offering donations of clothes, money and blood for the stricken folk in the South.

Fifteen members also receive the Church of Scotland World Mission magazine "Insight".

Christine Stone was supposed to have moved but her relocation has been delayed (Read more). Sita Tiwari, whom we sponsored some years ago, is doing well in her career in agriculture and is now working in Pokara in community development. She sent a Christmas card with greetings to her friends in St John's.

The latest progress report for Sanjeeb Dhungana, whom we are sponsoring through his schooling at Gandaki Boarding School in Nepal, has been received, which shows an improvement on the last one. Sanjeeb has also written us a letter, and that and a letter from the school will also be posted on the World Mission Board. We have paid 3 years fees so far and the fourth is due in May, but there is enough in the fund to pay this.

Many of the suppliers for Traidcraft come from the countries affected by the tsunami but, thankfully, none of them are in the stricken areas. The Traidcraft organisation have donated £25,000 to aid these countries.
