Church Without Walls - a celebration
In 2001 a special report was presented to our General Assembly. It was a reminder that the main calling of the church is to follow Jesus. Sounds simple enough!
But the challenge is to make it a reality in today's world, and the report recommended that the church should be
shaped by the Gospel of Jesus
shaped by the locality in which we live
shaped friendship
shaped by the gifts of God's people
Church Without Walls offered a fresh way to think about the church and to live our shared Christian life. Four years on a Year of Celebration for what has been achieved is planned. It will also be a time to reflect on the life of the church, and to find inspiration to keep going forward. A major national celebration event in Edinburgh is planned, on Saturday 28 May (and a regional one in Glasgow in September). Three delegates from each congregation in the Church of Scotland are invited to the Edinburgh event. The day will include a film festival, and the organisers are looking for 60 congregations to produce their own version of their dream church.
Members of the congregation are being approached so that St John's can take part in this exciting project.
