Church Grouping
At its November meeting, the Kirk Session took the important and unanimous decision to seek a possible parish grouping with the other Church of Scotland congregations in Carluke. This followed a joint conference of elders from Carluke congregations in October when the concept of parish grouping was fully explained and discussed.
Basically, it means a few congregations make the commitment to work together in agreed ways. The elders at the joint conference felt that their vision for the future of the church in Carluke was to have one Church of Scotland congregation, offering a wide variety of forms of worship, life and witness.
We are of course a long way from fulfilling the vision! As a first step, however, St John's elders have agreed to help form a steering group which would draw up concrete proposals for the parish grouping. In the meantime we wait to find out what the other two Kirk Sessions - of Kirkton and St Andrew's - have decided.
